Spazio SV – San Vidal Exhibition Center is pleased to host the solo exhibition of Ilaria Bramezza, titled The Architectures of Absence, curated by Silvia Previti.
This visual and conceptual journey explores the fragility of dwelling and the fate of contemporary cities amid devastation, transformation, and memory.
Through a two-level exhibition layout, the show guides visitors on a symbolic journey through the construction and dissolution of urban space.
On the ground floor, a chromatic explosion evokes the tradition of architectural and urban plans, subverting their static nature: ideal cities, cartographic utopias gradually fading into black—foreshadowing an imminent tragedy.
Ascending to the upper floor, architecture becomes fragmented and blends with ruin, evoking scenes of silence and absence. A visual and conceptual dialogue with Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities unfolds, becoming a reflection on collective memory and the possibility of aesthetic resistance.
The exhibition engages with the contemporary discourse on cities as not only physical but also narrative and political spaces. Echoing the reflections on the concept of domicidio—evoked by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco during the presentation of the upcoming 19th International Architecture Exhibition—Bramezza addresses the systematic destruction of dwellings in conflict zones such as Gaza and Ukraine, raising urgent questions about the erasure of urban memory and the impossibility of inhabiting the world.
The Architectures of Absence thus becomes a call to responsibility, memory, and cultural resistance.
Biography
After earning a degree in Business Administration and completing a PhD in the Netherlands, Ilaria Bramezza entered the world of art through her discovery of Flemish and Impressionist painting. Her artistic journey began in Italy with a self-taught approach, eventually developing a distinctive expressive language through the technique of neo-pointillism.
Her research has evolved over the years through numerous solo exhibitions, including Fire and Time (Ca’ dei Carraresi, Treviso, 2016) and a series of shows in venues across Treviso, Trieste, and Rome. In 2023, her studio in Merano marked a new chapter in her work, culminating in the series Green and Surroundings and in the exhibition project The Architectures of Absence, representing her most mature and conceptually developed work to date.
